That Empty Feeling After Finishing a Craft Project

empty feeling after finishing my crochet bag project

Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit strange. Just a few days ago, my life felt super busy—full of excitement and a bit of panic because of the looming contest deadline. I was writing a tutorial on a crochet bag. Every day, I was caught up in that craft project: thinking about the concept, watching tutorials, recording the process, editing photos, adjusting the lighting, and arranging the tutorial so everything made sense. It was exhausting, yes, but also incredibly fun.

There was this rush that made every day feel alive. Even when I stayed up late, I was still motivated because there was a clear goal: finish before the deadline!

But when the project was finally done, the tutorial sent, and I hit that “submit” button… everything suddenly went quiet. That empty feeling..

My desk, once cluttered and chaotic, is now spotless. No more tangled threads, no camera beeping, no scent of glue or fresh paper (Okay, that’s a lie. My crafting desk is always chaotic). It feels strange. Almost… empty.

You’d think I’d feel relieved, right? And I do, a little. But somehow, there’s also this tiny sense of loss. Maybe it’s because that project had been part of my daily life for days—something I thought about, worked on, and obsessed over. And now, just like that, it’s gone. Again, that empty feeling..

Funny thing is, that emptiness also makes me want to start another project right away. I want to feel that excitement again—the thrill of creating something from scratch, of watching a small idea slowly turn into something real.

But maybe that’s just how it is for crafters: there’s always a quiet space between “finished” and “starting again.” And in that space, I can only tell myself to slow down a little. To enjoy this calm moment. Because soon enough, I’ll be missing the messy desk, the late nights, and that beautiful chaos of making something with my own hands.
